Research Interest: My dissertation focused on rapid prototyping of domain specific languages and I have more recently developed interests in the field of robotics and embedded systems. I have developed and explore interesting algorithms for Selected interelated graph problems, (vertex cover, independent set, maximum clique). More recently I have been focused on the rising complexity of human-computer interfaces. Specifically the challenges programmers face in developing intuitive systems. I would like to further explore and compare the merits of Java as an educational languages. And I am continually exploring the perverted world of HTML and CSS. [ more ]

Teaching Statement: It is important to encourage exploring beyond instruction. Students must learn to ask questions before thay can provide real answers and learning encompasses more than regurgitation, so students need to creatively apply new knowledge to novel problems. Student-teacher dialogs never cease; the end of class only marks the end of formal instruction; the student-teacher relationship remains open. In the end, I am successful as a teacher, when I begin to learn from my students. [ more ]

Spring 2008 Courses

  1. CSCI 220-01 Data Structures

    Meeting: TTH 09:30AM 10:45AM in CSCC 318
Prerequisite: CSCI 150 and 150L and MATH 174
Catalog Description: A continuation of Computer Science 150 and 150L, topics include analysis of algorithms, with emphasis on computational complexity and advanced algorithms including self adjusting trees, hashing, graphs, sorting, searching, hashing methods, and greedy algorithms.

  2. CSCI 170-01 Ethics in Computer Science (previously listed as CSCI 305 )

    Meeting: Wed 01:00PM 01:50PM in CSCC 321
Catalog Description: Provides real-world experiences that stimulate discussions of ethical issues in the technical work place. Topics include: ACM Code of Ethics, general moral responsibilities, privacy security, copyright and ownership agreements, computer crimes, and personal ethics. Class format presents case studies of current news events regarding computer ethics.

  3. CSCI 370-01 Data Communication Systems and Networks

    Meeting: TTH 1:00 p.m. - 2:15 p.m. in CSCC 318
    Prerequisite: CSCI 220
Catalog Description: Communications environment, communications systems components, networks, network management and distributed environment, local networks.

  4. CSCI 140L-01 Introduction to Algorithmic Design I Laboratory

    Meeting: TTH 2:00 p.m. - 3:15 p.m. in CSCC 129
    Corequisite: CSCI 140
Catalog Description: Laboratory demonstrates the topics and principles presented in the lecture.

  5. CSCI 399-01 Robotics and Embedded Systems

Meeting: Academy of Arts Science and Technology
    Prerequisite: Instructor permission required
Catalog Description: Provide programming training, support, and mentoring for the Academy Robotics Team. Over a six week period a large (200 lb), powerful (12 volt power supply), and complex robot will be designed and built from around a PIC 18F820 chip. The robot will have to complete tasks in a hostile environment under control and autonomously.
